Specialist Technical Colleges in Germany. Ed. by Christian Bode, Werner Becker, Claudius Habbich et al. 320 p. w. 400 mostly col. ill. (Text: German-English) Specialist Technical Colleges are undergraduate colleges that provide courses in specific subject areas. In many cases they offer more focused education for specific careers than many more conventional university syllabi. This book pictures each of the "Fachhochschulen" and the towns in which they are situated, describing the specialities of each institution. The "Fachhochschulen" are listed alphabetically by city within each region. All pertinent information (address, faculties, number of professors, and students) is presented. In addition, 12 essays discuss the importance of these institutions within the German education systems, and describe their historic and current developments.
