Distance learning proliferated in post-secondary education. Higher attrition rates in distance-learning programs have compelled educators to investigate the causes for this continuing concern. Distance-learning interaction and student characteristics should be investigated further for their effects on successful completion. As research showed, interaction influenced student satisfaction in distance learning. The relationships between student satisfaction and elements of interactive learning, including learner-instructor, learner-learner, learner-content, and learner-interface interaction, are other issues to consider when designing an effective distance-learning course. In this study, an overall exploration of learner characteristics and students' perceptions of both interaction and satisfaction was conducted to examine their relationship within traditional, blended, and online settings. Educators can use this valuable study to design strategies for improving content delivery andincreasing interaction and satisfaction to enhance student completion.
