Prevalence of depression is common among elderly population all around the world. Emptiness, Social isolation, physical illnesses, financial dependency and other factors influence highly in determining elderly depression all over the world. While one quarter of the population would be elderly by 2041 and some older adults do experience depression that needs to be diagnosed and treated. However different cultures have different factors which precipitate to generate depressive symptoms among elderly people. This study aimed to identify most common depressive symptoms and possible reasons to develop depression in elderly population in Sri Lanka. To achieve the above mentioned aim this study had few objectives. To identify reasons behind adult depression, to clarify impact of different factors affecting depression.
