The study focused on identifying factors responsible for low health unit deliveries in Rwanyamahembe Sub County. It was sparked off by the persistent low levels of health unit deliveries. The study was guided by the following research objectives: - to establish causes of low health unit deliveries, to establish alternative places where mothers deliver from, the hindrances at the health unit that deter mothers from delivering there and to establish strategies to promote health unit deliveries. The study was based on 288 respondents who were served questionnaires and interviewed. The key findings of this study were that ;173 (61%) of deliveries took place outside health units, while only 110 (39%) took place in health facilities .Health facility utilization by the women living in a more than six kilometers distance was lower as compared to those living with in a distance of 5 kilometers distance. It was discovered that low health unit deliveries were as a result of poor knowledge,low levels skilled attendance deliveries in the community mainly influenced by low levels of education.
