In recent years, many colleges and universities have
begun to seriously consider open source course
management systems (CMS) as a way to minimize
financial investment and gain control over the
software applications they use. As academic
institutions make this transition, it is crucial to
recognize faculty s perspectives and expectations as
key factors in the future success of distance
education. For that reason, this book presents a
study of faculty perspectives and their attitudes
toward the use of Sakai open source CMS as a tool for
enhancing the teaching and learning experience. The
study reveals unique and/or remarkable findings about
faculty attitudes towards the advantages and
disadvantages of Sakai, their use of it, their
motivation to use it, and their overall satisfaction
with the system. The book investigates a topic that
has never been researched before, especially from the
unique angle of education. It provides valuable and
timely information for faculty, administrators,
software developers, instructional designers,
researchers, educators, and students interested in
the field of educational technology.
