Nowadays, the family tends to lose the meaning of family catechesis. For this reason, this booklet sheds light on family catechesis, more specifically, we intend to deal with family catechesis as understood by the recent Directory for Catechesis 227-228. Let us say that it is within the family that children learn to pray, to enter into a relationship with God. It is through prayer that the family enters into dialogue with God. Parents give their best to the transmission, education and communication of the faith in the family. Parents in the family are the first catechists and assume this responsibility of transmitting faith and charity with joy and freedom from their conjugal duty. It is at the heart of their ordinary daily relationships that faith is first communicated through the witness of love, justice, mercy, respect, fidelity, and peacemaking in the home. It is in this sense that the family remains a true domestic Church and a school of faith and charity.
