In the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, organic rice production stands out, especially in agrarian reform settlements. This production is marketed under the Terra Livre® rice brand and certified as an organic product by audit. In this context, the purpose of this book is to present a study on how Terra Livre® organic rice production has been developing in the land reform settlements of Rio Grande do Sul, with emphasis on the issue of certification and its connection with the marketing of this product. The methodology is of qualitative nature. The primary data were obtained from in-depth interviews conducted with representatives of the organizations of the Terra Livre® rice producers. The secondary data were obtained from a bibliographic and documentary review. The results allow us to conclude that this initiative has demonstrated the importance of a project based on Agroecology as the driving force of a differentiated development process with social empowerment.
