The family farms dominate in agriculture all over the World. Poland has retained a relatively large number of family farms, which are currently at the stage of the industrial transformation. At the same time, new challenges and conditions for the development of agriculture are gaining importance, i.e. challenges arising from globalisation and the imperative to take care of the environment. In this situation, arises the question how can the agricultural development fit effectively into the concept of sustainable development? Such question is also appropriate for other countries, in which family farming is dominant. The experience of family farming transformation in Poland can be instructive for a wide range of stakeholders. The issues presented above are a real Gordian Knot to untie. Elucidating the topics raised herein is the main goal of this book. This is what the identification of development trends in Polish agriculture in the long run stands for. Family farms are elaborated in the broad view, i.e. civilisation development, industrial transformation of agriculture, income of family, natural environment, vitality of rural areas and future prospects of family farming in Poland.
