In order to draw a line between the imperative need for sustainable management of natural resources and the demographic explosion that is calling food security into question, a study was carried out in the villages of Nkiela and Kinsuanga with the support of the Centre de recherche en communication et Développement Durable (CERED/Mongata), from May 15 to June 15, 2018, in order to deduce local knowledge of agroforestry, now considered to be the best agricultural practice in the context of climate change. The overall objective of this study is to contribute to the development of agroforestry in the CERED/Mongata intervention zone, while enhancing its potential in this area. Specifically, the study aims to inventory, characterize and analyze traditional agroforestry practices in order to bring about sustainable improvements. The study shows that home gardens (100%), crops under tree cover and the combination of food crops + fruit trees and planted energy wood are the three agroforestry practices used by farmers. However, their implementation needs to be reviewed if they are to be profitable.
