A frontage isunderstood as a skin of a building and has more wide-ranging functions than the shelteragainst weather. Ventilation, insight, outlook, sound- and sun protection as well as therelocation of wind load onto carrying construction of the particular building are additionalfunctions of frontages. Frontages are according to type - divided up into lightweight andheavy wall constructions. Those again have under categories with diverse system types.During the course of work it becomes obvious that the various types of frontages for differentdemands have pro and contra arguments. Accurately described are the hole and curtain wallsin the field of massive construction. Lightweight frontage constructions like single-leaffrontage types, additional-leaf frontages and combined ones are also part of this paper work.Glass double frontages are compared to conventional frontage elements. Corridor- and castefrontages are shortly explained. It follows the shape and style of the building from the environmental viewpoint through which the heating and cooling expenses can be significantlyreduced and the environment can be protected through resource-efficient material andprocessing. The active method of environmental-friendly building technology, thephotovoltaic system is described and revealed as weather- , sound- and sun protection as wellas heat insulation.
