Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Previously thought to affect primarily high-income countries, CHD now leads to more death and disability in low and middle income countries, with rates that are increasing disproportionately compared to high-income countries. Coronary Heart disease is the most common type of heart disease killing more than 385,000 people annually and contributing huge financial burden on the country for its diagnosis and management. Postprandial hypertriglyceridemia has emerged as an important factor for causation of CHD. So in the present study fasting and postprandial lipid profile was studied in patients of CHD. The study showed that patients of CHD had higher levels of plasma triglycerides in both fasting and postprandial state. There was also a significant negative correlation of serum triglyceride with HDL cholesterol and significant positive correlation with atherogenic index. In this study the classical risk factors like totalcholesterol and LDL cholesterol did not discriminate between controls and patients. High triglyceride and VLDL-C and lower HDL levels in the patients were observed to be better indicators of the disease.
