Autorenporträt
Having lived on the outskirts of Kampala as a child, I was filled with wonder for the place. The Kabaka of Buganda, the people, the music, the buildings, the view from the veranda of our home became etched in my brain. As an adult a chance meeting caused me to sing the Uganda National Anthem. Not long after that I flew with Iceland Air. The TV screen had the usual adverts. One advert which was extolling Iceland as a country said, "Everyone has a book in them." This is mine. The process is much like how I imagine a sculptor works. You slap on the clay, create a base and go from there. It has taken nine years to complete. In that time, I had the opportunity to return to the place I loved as a child and revisit our family home. On reflection, I left Kampala many years ago but Kampala never left me.
