Feline hepatic lipidosis is a disease characterised by the excessive accumulation of triglycerides within more than 50% of hepatocytes, it mainly affects obese and anorectic cats without the necessary presence of any other disease that triggers it, and may also be a sequel of disturbances in the normal metabolism of the organism. It has no breed, gender or age preference. This disease may be characterised by an imbalance in the deposition ratio, excess accumulation of triglycerides in the liver due to high intake, and high mobilisation of fats from adipose tissue due to low intake, and may also be due to low synthesis of apoproteins from the diet, or abnormal hepatocyte function reducing triglyceride oxidation.
