Feminine Influence On The Poets is a book written by Edward Thomas and published in 1911. The book explores the impact of women on the poetry of various male poets throughout history. Thomas argues that women have played a significant role in inspiring and shaping the work of poets, and he examines the ways in which female figures, both real and imagined, have influenced the poetic imagination. The book is divided into several chapters, each focusing on a different poet and his relationship with women. Thomas discusses the works of poets such as Shakespeare, Milton, Wordsworth, and Tennyson, among others, and shows how their poetry was shaped by the women in their lives. He also explores the ways in which female characters and archetypes have been used by male poets to express their own desires, fears, and aspirations.Throughout the book, Thomas emphasizes the importance of women in the creation and interpretation of poetry. He argues that women have been undervalued and overlooked in literary history, and that their contributions to poetry have often been ignored or dismissed. By highlighting the role of women in the poetic tradition, Thomas seeks to give them the recognition they deserve and to deepen our understanding of the ways in which poetry reflects and shapes our perceptions of gender and sexuality.Overall, Feminine Influence On The Poets is a thoughtful and insightful exploration of the relationship between women and poetry. It offers a fresh perspective on the history of literature and challenges readers to reconsider the ways in which gender has influenced the creation and interpretation of poetry. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Autorenporträt
Philip Edward Thomas was a British author of poetry and prose. He is sometimes referred to as a war poet, despite the fact that few of his poems actually address his wartime experiences. He began composing poetry at the age of 36, although by then he had been a successful critic, historian, nature writer, and travel writer for two decades. He enlisted in the British Army in 1915 to fight in World War I and was killed in action during the Battle of Arras in 1917, shortly after arriving in France. Edward Thomas was the son of Mary Elizabeth Townsend and Philip Henry Thomas, a civil servant, writer, preacher, and local politician. He was born in Lambeth, south London, having previously lived in Surrey. He attended Belleville School, Battersea Grammar School, and St Paul's School, all in London. Thomas's family was predominantly Welsh. Of his six great-grandparents for whom information is available, five were born in Wales and one in Ilfracombe. All four of his grandparents had been born and raised in Wales. His paternal grandparents lived in Tredegar.
