Fence: /fens/ + Bat: /bat/ = Fencebat: /fens-bat/ A game invented during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 by two young children creatively fending off boredom, of which the object appears to be sticking a foam bat through the lats of a backyard fence as comically as possible. Take a glimpse into author and journalist Jim Schneider's life at the beginning of 2020 as his family's daily routine turned upside down through the new reality of lockdowns, shutdowns, and closures. Fencebat: A Big Kid's Guide to Parenting, Personal Growth, and Play reveals how Jim grappled with everything by blogging and chronicling his life. Every day. For 450 days. Jim didn't hold back. He wrote about the trials and tribulations of making unholy choices between safety and sanity, grocery hoarding, and managing the balance of being a parent and a professional in a confined space. Jim shares his family's journey following his son being identified as autistic and seeking support for him at a time when everything was on hold. Through humor, thoughtful perspective, and heartfelt stories, Jim opens the door for reflection and gratitude in the realm of parenting and personal growth. If there's one thing that Jim shares with the world, it's that time is precious when it comes to parenting. As you build those special memories with your children, Jim's recollection is a time capsule of discovery, development, and never forgetting the importance of play.

Autorenporträt
A writer, husband, father to two young children, Jim Schneider began his career at age 17 as a disc jockey on an AM polka radio station in Wisconsin, and has gone on to work as an editor and writer for numerous national magazines in a variety of subject areas, including sustainability, architecture, construction, education, and sports. He is the executive director of a regional construction trade association in Denver, has a passion for sustainable design and construction, and educates architects and engineers in the mountain states. When COVID-19 came on the scene and the world shut down, Jim started a blog called P's & Q: Parenting, Productivity & Quarantine. From March of 2020 through June of 2021, he posted each day his experiences and perspectives on being a working parent navigating difficult times for his kids, his family, his job, and the world in general. During the pandemic, Jim's son Henry was identified as being autistic, inspiring his whole family to educate themselves about neurodiversity and the challenges often faced by individuals with disabilities. Jim now writes about disability parenting topics for publications like Colorado Parent magazine. Jim lives in Denver with his wife, Erin, and children Amelia and Henry. He continues to write about parenting and disability support and is developing a new content initiative called "Parenting in Hell," dedicated to helping parents raise positive kids in a negative world. Look for Parenting in Hell in early 2023. To learn more about Jim and his work, visit writer-schneider.com.
