Frederick Albion Ober (1849-1913) was a history writer and naturalist who famously explored much of South America and the Lesser Antilles, where he discovered and noted no less than 22 bird taxa. He was a co-founder of the Explorers Club and a member of the American Antiquarian Society and retained a lifelong interest in all matters South America.
