If an aspiring filmmaker has just one book on the shelf, it should be this one. Filmmaking is the most authoritative work on the entire process of making a movie. Through clear writing and hundreds of illustrations, Tomaric shows readers how to take Hollywood-tested techniques and apply them to their own film, regardless of budget. [It can be done! If an aspiring filmmaker has just one book on the shelf, it should be this one. Filmmaking is the most authoritative work on the entire process of making a movie. Tomaric got his start by making an award-winning film for $2,000 in his native Ohio.] By contrast, many competing books arent written by industry pros and cover shoddy techniques. The books release is tied to the November launch of FilmSkills.com, an ambitious online film school and joint venture between Tomaric and Focal Press/Elsevier. The book will benefit from a major publicity campaign to filmmakers and film schools.

Rezensionen
"I had the pleasure of being invited to review a new educational website FilmSkills.com. Filmskills.com is dedicated to those who wish to learn the ins and outs of the film industry through an easy to use online educational website. First off, I would like to say that I LOVE the world of online education! I am in favor of online education as it saves you time and money. Educational websites also allow you to learn at your own pace from the convenience of your home. While reviewing Filmskills.com I was not able to watch all the videos as there were so many to watch. The reason for such a high number of video modules is because they go through every aspect of the movie making process, videos range from script writing and budgeting to editing and audio post production. I truly enjoyed how easy it was to skim through all the videos to find the one you are looking for. All the videos also have the ability to be bookmarked, so you can return to your lesson when it is at your best convenience. Many of the modules come with additional resources, so you may be able to find links to books to further your education and/or additional content files or images to help in your film making process. The well crafted video lessons include real world examples and valuable explanations by working industry professionals. The advice given by the industry pros is something many schools are not able to do, adding more value to this wonderful website."--Deyson Ortiz

"Filmskills is a comprehensive, thorough, well-organized and very well-presented collection of information, proven technique, and insights from industry professionals. As comprehensive and dense as it is, it cannot replace hands-on experience or an interactive, formal film education. It can, however, serve as a remarkable supplement to such a program, or a thorough and very effective introduction to the major concepts of filmmaking. More effective than the film texts I studied in school, the site is a collection of valuable material for the digital age. At $39.99/month, or $399/year, it might prove to be a rather expensive supplement or introduction, but the site earnestly seems to earn this price tag with constant updates, clean production value, and relevant, knowledgeable contributors. While an online course can never replace hands-on experience, you'll be hard pressed to find a better online program than Filmskills."--Microfilmmaker Magazine review by Mike Flanagan
