The study examined the effect of financial assistance and the performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. It sought to identify the various support programmes initiated by the government to enhance the performance of SMEs, to examine the extent to which the implementation of these support programmes affect the performance of SMEs, to access the factors determining the performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria, and also to determine the effect of financial strategy on the growth of SMEs. The study relied on primary and secondary sources of data. Primary data were sourced through the administration of a questionnaire. Secondary data were collected from relevant journals, books, government publications and available statistical package for social sciences to generate frequencies, percentages, and contingencies (cross tabulation). The data collected from the questionnaire were analysed descriptively. The descriptive analysis involved tabulationsin percentages and use of appropriate statistical analysis, while responses to interviews were also analysed.
