This book addresses the multiple elements that influence the sustainability of pension systems with a special focus on central and eastern European countries. Supported by the results of econometric empirical studies, the authors discuss and analyse areas like social economy versus capitalist economy, globalization versus glocalization, population aging versus birth and fertility, emigration versus immigration, early retirement versus prolongation versus professional activity, the sustainability of public pension systems versus the adequacy of benefits provided, public pension systems compared to private pension funds and taxation of salary incomes versus subsidization of state social insurance.

tefania Amalia Jimon is Assistant Professor of Finance at the Department of Economics and Technical Sciences, Faculty of Economics, Engineering and Informatics at "Vasile Goldi " Western University of Arad (Romania). She is both economist and medical specialist and received her PhD in Finance at "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu (Romania). She has the following research interest fields: pension systems, public finance, capital markets, tax law. She published around 20 articles indexed in multiple international databases. She teaches courses in Public Finance, Monetary Economics, Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. Florin Cornel Dumiter is Full Professor of Finance at the Department of Economics and Technical Sciences, Faculty of Economics, Engineering and Informatics at "Vasile Goldi " Western University of Arad (Romania). He holds an economist and legal adviser diploma and received a PhD in Finance and a PhD in Tax Law at West University of Timi oara (Romania) and a PostDoctoral Degree in Economics at the Romanian Academy. His research interests include International Finance, Capital Markets, Finance & Banking, Tax and Financial Law. He has several published books and over 80 articles indexed in Clarivate Analytics, Scopus and other important international databases. He teaches courses in Public Finance, Monetary Economics, Assurance Management at bachelor level and Financial Markets and Financial Management at master level. In recent years he has taught courses and seminars in tax law and business law. He is also a practising chartered accountant and tax consultant and adviser with judicial and accounting and fiscal expertise. Nicolae Balte is Full Professor of Finance at the Department of Accountancy and Finance, Faculty of Economics at "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu (Romania). He holds a bachelor degree in Economics and a PhD in Finance at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. He teaches courses in FinancialEconomics and Financial Accounting. He has published a number of books and articles in international journals. He holds practical expertise in judicial and extrajudicial accounting, financial diagnosis, business plans, evaluations, market studies and accounting management.
