The book also addresses the laws about transporting and transferring firearms and the related background checks. Separate chapters discuss FFL licenses in general and the specific requirements for each major type of license (dealer, collector, importer, or manufacturer). The laws for these licensees are explaining, including recordkeeping, inspections, and firearms markings and serialization requirements. Both firearm export and import laws are explained with extensive procedural guidelines and checklists. Another chapter details the requirements under the National Firearms Act, including the new NFA gun trust requirements. Additional chapters explain the application of federal firearm laws to law enforcement officers and gun shows and events, as well as the repercussions for violating the firearms laws, including seizure, forfeiture, and penalties.

Gary is licensed to practice law in Texas and California and has also been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the Northern and the Eastern Districts of California. He is also a member of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the National Rifle Association, the Second Amendment Foundation, the Texas State Rifle Association, the California Rifle and Pistol Club, and the U.S. Concealed Carry Association. Gary began his professional career in 1985 after obtaining a BBA in accounting and passing the national CPA exam. While working as a CPA for several years, he several years he gained a solid understanding of the financial and management issues facing businesses, as well as their tax and regulatory burdens. He earned his law degree from J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in 1991 and began practicing law in California and later in Texas. During his more than twenty-five years of practicing law, he has represented businesses and individuals in a wide range of legal areas, including tax and regulatory issues, criminal and civil litigation, estate and business planning, and pursuing appeals in state and federal courts.
