The '60s are remembered for many things, including the Vietnam War and California surfing. First Love centers on these subjects, as well as the story of two high school kids in Long Beach, California, who fall in love and mature from teens to young adults. In 1963, prior to Randy's venture into the Marines, he experiences a nightmare depicting his First Love Natalie, drowning in the surf. Waking from this nightmare, he recounts their passion-filled years, including falling in love, their first kiss and all their favorite surfing spots. Memories - including surfing safaris, big waves, wipe-outs, late-night cruising, proms and an episode of skinny-dipping - come to mind. Together, Randy and Natalie share the thrilling beginnings of the surfing craze. Following graduation, Randy is eventually sent to Vietnam. Natalie's love for him has never faded, but can true love, born in times of innocence, survive the uncertainty of war? Author David Eggert was born in 1943 and was fortunate to witness and experience firsthand the surfing phenomena that took place during those memorable years. His love of surfing and writing have created a book of nostalgia and romance, all in one.
