Josh Pachter's short crime stories have been appearing in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and many other places since the late 1960s. He has edited more than a dozen anthologies, including Anthony Award finalists The Beat of Black Wings: Crime Fiction Inspired by the Songs of Joni Mitchell (Untreed Reads) and Paranoia Blues: Crime Fiction Inspired by the Songs of Paul Simon (Down and Out Books), and EQMM's "Passport to Crime" department regularly features his translations of stories by Dutch and Flemish authors. His first novel, Dutch Threat, was published by Genius Books in 2023 and nominated for the Agatha, Lefty, and Macavity awards. First Week Free at the Roomy Toilet is his first book for younger readers. In 2020, the Short Mystery Fiction Society selected him to receive its Golden Derringer Award for Lifetime Achievement.
