Produktbeschreibung
Finfish mariculture has significantly increased in the last decades. At the same time, some parasitic diseases have emerged as an important threat to fish health. After the first book on fish parasites of continental fish, this second book compiles the studies of the teams leaded by the author from 1985 to 2013 on the parasitefauna of the main commercial cultured marine fish of the Mediterranean area. The relevance of some parasitoses with high impact on the cultures, such as Enteromyxum spp. and monogeneans, among others, is stressed. Aspects of epidemiology, in vitro culture, diagnosis, transmission, pathology, fish immune response, role of terminal carbohydrate residues in the host-parasite interaction, and treatment and control are presented, including 67 Tables and 78 Figures. Several recent findings on the field are also commented. Further studies are suggested to get the information allowing the prevention and control of the main parasitoses. This book is useful for students, graduates or teachers in Biological Sciences and Veterinary Medicine. Mariculture firms and fish-farmers could also find in it a good aid to manage their facilities regarding parasitoses.
