Ferruccio Brugnaro was born in Mestre, Italy in 1936. He worked for more than 30 years--most of his adult life--in the giant complex of chemical factories in the Porto Marghera district of Venice. Known as the working class poet, he has published six collections of poetry, mostly focusing on blue-collar workers. Jack Hirschman has translated over twenty-five books of poetry from eight languages, and has published several volumes of his own poetry. Long recognized as an activist, he takes the free exchange of poetry and politics into the streets.
