Babile Elephant Sanctuary in the semi-arid part of east Ethiopia is one of the protected areas. Although it has been designated as the largest sanctuary for elephants (6984 km2) in the country (Stephenson, 1976), there has been no systematic ecological, floristic and ethnobotanical studies that had been carried out until recently.

Anteneh Belayneh is a lecturer/researcher in Haramaya University. He obtained his first and second degrees in 1996 and 2006 from AAU respectively. He is an expert of dryland Biodiversity conservation and management and published six papers. he also worked with international groups like, French GEF, IRD/MNHN, IFS, MESA, UNEP, in Africa and Europe.
