Ecotourism a sustainable form of land use contributes to environmental conservation as well as providing accrued socio-economic benefits to the indigenous people through the non-consumptive uses and indirect values of the natural biological resources. It is widely recognized as a tool for biodiversity conservation and can play an important role in managing the site for biodiversity conservation. The Sonadia Island has significant tourism potential as there are many features of interest at the site including globally significant species. The distribution of species varied in different sites of the study area. In Sonadia Island a total of 53 different plant species (both sand dune and mangrove ecosystems) were found. Study shows that potentiality of mangrove areas for ecotourism is high, especially for the sites which are accessible and located close to the existing resorts and hotels in Coz s Bazar.
