Currently, the development of robust chemical and biosensors using nanomaterials is an active field of research. Developments of materials at the nanoscale has become one of the prominent technology today due to their novel optical properties such as broad absorption spectrum, narrow and symmetric emission spectrum, size/compositional tunable optical properties and high photobleaching threshold conditions. The implications of nanotechnology are wide-ranging and could include medicine, military applications, computing and astronomy. Hence, during the course of Ph.D., I considered to study optical and carrier relaxation dynamics of semiconductor nanocrystals or quantum dots (CdTe, CdSe, CdSe/ZnS and Alloyed CdSeS/ZnS QDs) using steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy. Further, we carried out the effect of size, shape, composition and surface capping on Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) from these QDs with organic dyes and fluorescent proteins with a view to developing chemical and biosensors.

Dr. Kotresh M G is serving as an Asst. Professor at Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari, India. He received his MSc degree in Physics & his Ph.D. in molecular spectroscopy from Karnatak University, Dharwad. He has 7 papers in peer-reviewed journals & written 4 book chapters. His current research interest is biosensors using NPs.
