Open cast mine economics depend on the efficiency of haul road. The waste dump associated with it impose adverse conditions on the area due to substantial mine overburden lying un-reclaimed. Huge generation of fly ash adversely affect land, air and water. Its gainful utilization is a major challenge. This book presents the different aspects of surface coal mine haul road, its construction, problems associated with its operation, attributes of fly ash, development of an alternate fly ash based composite material etc. The geo-technical properties of the developed composites have been determined and analysed as well as their suitability to replace the conventional sub-base material in the haul road has been evaluated both experimentally as well as numerically. Correlations have been developed among various parametric influences. At the end conclusions have been drawn so as to predict the potential of gainful utilization of fly ash.
