Halloween, the night of ghosts and goblins, witches and zombies, disguise and illusion, is the perfect canvas for a killer to cloak his handiwork in plain sight. While taking a friend's son trick or treating, Melinda Stark and Indie Porter, best friends and physical therapy business partners, make a tragic discovery. A life-sized dummy decked out in a witch costume turns out to be a corpse. Another woman, a few streets over is found dead, in exactly the same manner. Both were known to Melinda and Indie. Using rhyming notes the killer moves the detectives around like pieces on a chessboard. He threatens further kills, thoroughly enjoying the mental swordplay. He becomes unhinged as Melinda decides to help on the case. She is heading right for the answer that might unearth his true motives and identity. As the tension builds and others are put in harm's way, the killer and Melinda inch ever closer to each other. Who will come out on top? Who will win the game?

Autorenporträt
"Focused Hocus Pocus" is Michale Mohr's second installment in her Heartfelt Murder Mystery Series, with the third installment, "Eight-Ball, Corner Pocket," coming out in late summer/early fall. In addition to writing, Michale has also performed on stage in regional theater, and ran her own dinner theater, "The Brown Bag Theatre," as well as some small television roles. Michale comes by her sleuthing skills from personal experience. In her early twenties, she suffered from debilitating panic attacks, so severe she ended up an agoraphobic unable to leave her home. That's when she began to write. She wrote characters that were brave and unafraid. During that time her son went missing, Still suffering with bouts of panic, she ventured out, and after a three-year search successfully brought him home. She's remained panic free since that time. Michale calls herself a dreamer. However, she believes you don't 'chase' your dreams, you 'attract' them to you. "Do the work, hold the vision, and open your arms to the possibilities," is her mantra. Michale lives in the suburbs just outside of Portland, Oregon. She enjoys time with her son and grandson, long walks in the beautiful Oregon landscapes, time with good friends, and every 48 Hour-type of mystery show on television. She still remembers the days she couldn't do those simple things. As she puts it, "Every minute of our lives is precious. Those who have had those moments interrupted know most deeply the joy and sorrow of a moment in a lifetime."
