Folklore and National Development: Kom and Bakweri Proverbs, demonstrates that proverbs collected from two disparate cultures - Kom and Bakweri - can contribute to the process of national development especially in a country like Cameroon which is heterogeneous, multilingual and pluri-cultural, and which is yet to cultivate a sense of national identity in its citizens. The originality of this work lies in the fact that it is the first known attempt to treat the issue of national development from the perspective of proverbs (culture) rather than economics and politics as has been the case so far. There is promise here, and scholarship is awaiting its fruits. Professor Emeritus Kashim Ibrahim TALA University of Buea, Cameroon. If orature is coterminous with the human condition, their destinies belong together. Scholars of orature should salute the arrival of this book that we recommend as a companion of both scholars of the sciences and humanities who have the development of their societies at heart.
