About Dr. Kari Anderson, LPC, CEDS-S.Having personally struggled with binge eating and weight stigma, a personal passion drives Kari's professional career. Her therapeutic presence creates a safe, nonjudgmental, and healing environment making her, as patients often state, "someone who gets it."Prior to starting her private practice, Kari positioned herself as a respected clinician and leader in the field of eating disorders. Over the course of thirty-two years, she developed several treatment models and helped thousands of patients and their families through programs such as Green Mountain at Fox Run, and Remuda Ranch.An athlete, Kari studied physical education and nutrition in her undergraduate degree yet became interested in counseling after her own recovery from an eating disorder. In 1991, she received her counseling degree from Mount St. Mary's College in Los Angeles, California. She earned her Doctor of Behavioral Health with her research project The Mindful Eating Cycle: Treatment for Binge Eating Disorder at Arizona State University in 2012. Co-creator of the Am I Hungry?(R) Mindful Eating for Binge Eating Program, Kari also co-authored the acclaimed book, Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat for Binge Eating: A Mindful Eating Program for Healing Your Relationship with Food & Your Body. In 2021, she released her memoir, Food, Body, & Love, but the greatest of these is love. This work goes deeper into the science behind effective treatment for binge and emotional eating.About The Author209 210 food, body, & love companion workbookKari holds a faculty position with Plymouth State University in New Hampshire and serves on the certification committee for the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, supporting supervisors for the Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS-S) designation. Kari is a licensed counselor, coach, consultant, supervisor, author, speaker, and blogger on disordered eating, behavior change strategy, and weight neutrality.She lives in the greater Phoenix area with her husband Brian and therapy dog, Gretel.
