My work examined the value of precautionary food labelling. My results showed that precautionary labelling is prevalent and ambiguous; consumers don't believe the statements; and consumers may not necessarily be undertaking a risk by consuming the products. I chose this area of research because I have four children who had food intolerances. In a supermarket setting I found it very difficult to almost impossible to buy food products that I would consider safe for my children to consume. Therefore I want to make changes to the way food manufacturers use labelling, so that it is more informative to consumers.
