Women entrepreneurs are classified by the Indian government as women who participate in the ownership and employment of a firm. Accordingly, a woman-run business is defined as "an operation owned and controlled by a woman with a minimum financial interest of 51 percent of the capital and providing at least 51 percent of the enterprise's employment to women." Women entrepreneurs account for 10% of the total number of entrepreneurs in the country.
