For decades, the forensic science disciplines have produced valuable evidence that has contributed to the successful prosecution and conviction of criminals as well as to the exoneration of innocent people. Hence, public health professionals may play a major role in identification of those individuals who cannot be identified. Moreover, the likelihood of future disasters due to terrorism, earthquakes and other causes and also recent pandemic such as COVID-19 require the public health profession in India to prepare for an expanded role that would be in bioterrorism response, crime or in civil proceedings. Public health dentists have a major role to play in keeping accurate dental records and providing all necessary information so that legal authorities may recognize malpractice, negligence, fraud or abuse, and identify unknown humans. Therefore public health professionals should involve, assist and evolve themselves in the field of forensic to envision the future at a community, state and national level.
