From Readymade to Product Fetish Ever since the invention of the readymade at the start of the last century, when everyday objects were selected to be shown as art objects, the differentiation between art and everyday life is no longer straightforward and now very much dependent on context. The public presentation of readymades and their appropriation in the context of Pop Art during the 1960s, a period of great economic prosperity, has considerably increased the influence of both product and advertising design on art. Aesthetics familiar from everyday life have brought about fundamental changes in art in terms of content. Art appreciation can no longer function without considering the interdependencies between the operating system of art and its development within consumer society. The appropriation of consumer goods has turned the microsystem of art into an actual zone of conflict between material and materialism, and works of art have thus become veritable fetish objects. These interdependencies form the point of departure for the exhibition and the accompanying book »Form Matters, Matter Forms. From Readymade to Product fetisch« with works ranging from Marcel Duchamp to the present day. Lynn Kost was from 2004 to 2011 artistic director of the Fumetto - International Comix Festival in Lucerne, before he moved to the Swiss Museum Allerheilingen in Schaffhausen and to Bü ndner Kunstmuseum Chur. Here he curated in 2018 the show " Always Different, Always the Same" . Lynn Kost has since moved to Kunstmuseum Winterthur, where he is now responsible for the program of contemporary art. (Stuttgart, 1968) is a German art historian and professor at the University of Vienna. He studied painting at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Kü nste Karlsruhe between 1988 and 1989 and art history, philosophy and modern German literature at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universitä t Freiburg between 1989 and 1995. Egenhofer then completed his doctorate in art history at the University of Basel, where he worked as a research assistant between 2005 and 2007 and was Laurenz Professor of Contemporary Art until 2011.
