The main objective of this work was to formulate and evaluate anti ulcer floating tablet using the swellable polymer. The floating tablets of Ranitidine hydrochloride were prepared by direct compression method .Floating matrix tablets were formulated by incorporating different polymers like HPMC K4M, HPMC K100M which are the synthetic polymers and the natural polymer used was the Gellan Gum (low acyl) and effervescent agent used was sodium bicarbonate. The effect of different polymers in increasing concentration on the drug release profile and floating properties were investigated. The formulation was optimized on the basis of acceptable tablet properties like, precompression parameters and post compression parameters, floating lag time, total floating time and invitro drug release study. The compatibility study was performed by FTIR method. The release data were subjected to different models in order to evaluate their release kinetics.
