In the present study, the floating tablets of Cefdinir and showed better gastric cytoprotection when compared with the conventional dosage form. This may be due to its extended duration of release and action. Floating tablets of all formulations were subjected to physicochemical studies using parameters such as thickness, diameter, hardness, friability, weight variation, and drug content. For all the above parameters the observed average value and variations were within the limits. Results of the swelling index study also revealed that the concentration of gas-generating agents NaHCO3 and citric acid had a profound effect on the swelling and erosion process. Good correlations were observed between the release rate constant and AUC of the formulation and also between the mean dissolution time and mean resident time of the designed formulations.
