Cinnarizine, a piperazine derivative with anti-histaminic activity finds its major use in control of vomiting due to motion sickness. It has a short half-life of 3-6 hrs. & the usual dosage regimen is 75 mg twice or three times a day for adults. The floating tablets of cinnarizine were formulated using varying concentration of HPMC K4M & effervescent agents by wet granulation technique. The granules were evaluated for angle of repose, bulk density, tapped density, Carr s index, Hausner s ratio & drug content. The tablets were evaluated for thickness, hardness, weight variation test, friability, in vitro buoyancy & in vitro dissolution study. A 3 Square factorial design was used to study the effect of HPMC K4M & citric acid on lag time, floating time & percentage cumulative release. The responses were analyzed using ANOVA & by the predictive equation, it was found that the concentration of HPMC K4M & citric acid significantly affected all the response parameters. The obtained model was validated & optimized formulation was prepared as suggested by the software. All the predicted values of responses were found to be closed to the observed values.
