This book is a key guide to bone fracture and fatigue, focusing on quasi-static and fatigue and fracture characterization of cortical bone tissue. Discussing the fundamental aspects of fracture mechanics and fatigue, applicable to many orthotropic materials, the book examines novel, cutting-edge approaches to analyse and model this.

Autorenporträt
Marcelo F. S. F. de Moura is Full Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, Portugal. His research interests are focused on mechanical and fracture behaviour of anisotropic materials (composites, wood and bone) and adhesive bonding. Numerical simulation of fracture and fatigue using cohesive zone modelling is a prominent research topic. He is author/co-author of 199 research papers in international scientific journals (h-index=46 in Scopus considering independent citations) and 3 books; he has participated in 33 research projects, being the leader of 10 of them, and has supervised 15 PhD students (4 ongoing). Nuno Dourado is Associate Professor at the Mechanical Department of the School of Engineering of University of Minho in Guimarães, Portugal. His research interests are focused on the fracture characterization of quasi-brittle materials (wood, concrete and bone tissue) and cohesive zone modelling of these materials behaviour. The characterization of viscoelastic response of biological materials is a recent topic of research. He has authored/co-authored 85 research papers (h-index=20 in Scopus considering independent citations) and 1 book, has participated in 11 scientific projects, being leader of 2 of them,, and has supervised/co-supervised 49 MSc thesis and 7 PhD students (3 ongoing).
