This study examines recent battlefield experiences from Afghanistan and Iraq. It focuses on joint fire support, the constructs employed, and the impact of using those constructs on achieving the Joint Force Commander's objectives. Fire Support Coordination Measures and Air Space Coordination Measures have significantly affected the efficiency and ability of joint combat operations. As legacy systems in each service reach the end of their service life, reducing the friction between surface and air-based firepower is essential to the US Military stepping forward into a network-enabled force.
