On January 22, 1963, Germany and France signed the Elisée Treaty on Franco-German cooperation. The treaty marks a symbolic moment that heralds the institutionalization of bilateral relations. The Treaty of Aachen (January 22, 2019 in Aachen) takes up the Elisée Treaty and calls for a deepening of European anchorage and solidarity, as well as a strengthening of cross-border cooperation. This book examines the specific challenges faced by political decision-makers and civil society in France and Germany since 1963 as a result of a series of political, security, economic, social and global instabilities. The aim is to decipher the main geostrategic stakes in Europe from a French and German perspective, using targeted case studies. We will also assess the gap between the two countries' "representations" and policies in terms of geopolitical interests, new strategic orientations, and recent feminist diplomacy.
