Produktbeschreibung
The author of this book presents the ideas advocated by Poulain de la Barre in several debates on very different subjects, often making references to intellectual concepts or practices of the time. Poulain's work is a mirror that reflects not only the socio-cultural situation of France or Geneva but also that of seventeenth-century Europe. The author examines three foalian works forgotten by researchers, whose person of Poulain de la Barre is at the center of their research, namely texts from the linguistic and religious (Calvinist) field. It is a manual facilitating the translation from Latin to French to which is attached a small etymological dictionary, then a kind of remark demonstrating the language mistakes committed by the Genevans and a text devoted to the Protestant religion whose core constitutes the problematic of the Eucharist and transubstantiation. This book is intended for those interested in the intellectual life of France in the second half of the 17th century, as well as for those who are passionate about the history of the French language and the religious controversy of that period.
