Original oil paintings illustrate this funny and inspirational true story. Early discouragement from Natalie's dreadfully unimaginative art teacher Mrs. S didn't stop her from becoming an artist. Falling off her bicycle on an impossibly steep hill, getting bit on her you-know-what by a goose during Goose Tag, and freezing her tongue on the icy railing on Grandpa's porch after her cousins dared her to do it--well, none of those things broke Natalie's spirit. Today her paintings are in galleries and exhibits, and her dream of living and painting in Ireland has come true. FRED is an excellent choice for independent reading or classroom teaching for Grades 4 and up. It lends itself to learning inference, irony, new vocabulary words, and descriptive prose. FRED is also a delight to read aloud to children K-3rd Grade. Don't forget what makes this book special. Readers can watch the author paint the illustrations, including one abstract art piece, via short fun videos on the author's YouTube Channel.

Autorenporträt
Natalie Buske Thomas is an author of 26 books, an oil painter with art in galleries, exhibits, books and on tour, an entertainer and a public speaker. Natalie was born in upstate New York, raised in Indiana, lived in Germany for three years and near the Twin Cities (Minneapolis, Saint Paul, Minnesota) for twenty. In December 2015 Natalie's dream of painting and writing in Ireland came true! Read her Irish Adventures blog here. Natalie returned to the United States in May 2016. She currently resides in the historic town of Newburgh, Indiana, near the IN/KY state border, about 2.5 hours' drive from Nashville, TN. Natalie loves all things Irish, oil painting, sugar cookies, the color red, pizza, live music, playing the drums, and singing. She enjoys people who are still capable of having an imagination, of having a sense of wonder, of feeling hopeful and full of energy, of feeling as if anything is possible, of feeling afraid of scary things and unafraid of the rest... of having courage, of being selfless, of being spontaneous, of recognizing humor, and of living life to the absolute fullest.
