Heinz Willebrand ist Gründer und Chief Technology Officer der Firma LightPointe, Louisville (USA). Nach dem Studium der Physik in Münster ging er 1994 in die USA und war an der University of Colorado an mehreren Forschungsprojekten zur optischen Freiraumübertragung beteiligt. 1995 war er Mitbegründer des Forschungsunternehmens Eagle Optoelectronics, aus dem 1998 LightPointe hervorging. Ziele von LightPointe sind die Entwicklung und der Verkauf von leistungsfähigen FSO-Systemen.
