Frank Murney was born in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland on the 23rd of October 1945. He was educated at the Christian Brother Abbey and St. Josephs Intermediate School. A career in aviation gave way to martial arts when he became an instructor and went on to create his own unique style, "Golden Dragon" which went on to become one of Irelands most successful ever clubs. Frank's martial arts career has spanned over 30 years and his position as World Chief of Referees resulted in the publication of a book on semi contact refereeing called "Man in the Middle."
