32 pp. From a RectangleIllustrated by Pencil Artist Craig Ledger. From a rectangle, Lizzy hopes to draw a move-in ready spectacular house, and, alas, accomplishes her goal, but the "house stood still as could be." The determined and adorable Lizzy repeatedly adds details, making the house even more spectacular, but the "house stood still as could be." When "down, down came the rain," Lizzy and her cat, Binti, appear quite stuck on white space. Ledger conveys emotions and action through the use of simple lines and colors and the sequence of illustrations. This sweet picture book hopes to encourage conversations in art, math, literature, and psychology, but most of all, it hopes to motivate children to grab a pencil and start imagining.
Autorenporträt
Najah A. Jabbar, an educator, has always been drawn to the possibilities of the imagination. She has a knack for making flat shapes come to life with sweet and quirky tales that inspire imaginations and encourage conversations about the link between art, geometry, and language. When she's not writing, or teaching, she's enjoying the Denver life with her beautiful daughter, Aaya, who inspired the first book of the series, "From a Circle." After that, stories seemed to form their own shapes or vice versa, conveying experiences or lessons that children encounter in their daily lives.
