This book investigates the construction of heroism within Hamlet and The Lion King; based upon the numerous similarities between the Shakespearean play and the Disney animated movie. Psychoanalytical perspectives- such as Lacan's concept of The Other, and the Mirror Stage- will be employed to analyse heroism. Moreover, other representations of Hamlet will be examined through the use of film theories. There has also been a change in the pattern of Disney heroes through the years, and this book presents a completely new concept of heroism. It englobes various categories of heroism in order to situate Simba and Hamle. Through the manner in which the similarities and differences tie each protagonist to each other; both of them in fact provide one specific genre of hero. This exciting new idea should be helpful to any English literature student at tertiary level, or anyone willing to explore a new dimension in Literature and Animated movies.
