Hailing from the northeast of England, the author worked as a probation officer for twelve years in her home town of Middlesbrough before immigrating to Florida in 1991. She and her husband live in Naples, sharing their home with four bossy cats who adopted them in the 2009 recession.After listening to her father's war stories and reading his tattered diaries, Hayton felt compelled to write this book.
