In this exploratory qualitative work, the concept of religious pluralism in the United States is articulated in terms of the arch of its historical development. Theoretical tools including interfaith anchors and interfaith space are developed in order to better understand the changes in communication, cooperation, and coalition building across lines of religious difference. Far-ranging interviews are also analysed in order to gain a deeper perspective on new forms of "crossing the faith line" and to explore possible future developments, strengths, and weaknesses of each approach.
