Recently, I had the opportunity to read the manuscript written by Mr. Haile Girmai Aberra. It is entitled From Saving Lives to Building Livelihoods: The Productive Safety Net Programme and its Role in Linking Relief with Development: Chapters in the study cover a a range of topics and critical themes of great importance in social protection. Mr. Haile drew on his own research in Ethiopia as well as the International Professional Literature in crafting a study of great importance for the field. The wide range of problems and issues faced by the poor in Ethiopia, raised in this study, are relevant to other developing countries in Africa and other parts of the World. I very much endorse the publication of the book and think it will be of broad interest in the field. Dr. Getinet Haile Senior Research Fellow, Policy Study Institute, London, UK and Assistant Professor / Post Doc, Chair of Econometrics, Mannheim University, Germany
